Mission
The European Cardio-Oncology Symposium (ECOS) develops innovative education to meet the needs of the full multidisciplinary cardio-oncology team and those interested in setting up a cardio-oncology service. ECOS provides hands-on learning, with a focus on practical implementation of knowledge and skills learned, for cardiologists, clinical oncologists, radiation oncologists, specialist nurses, haematologists, pharmacists and other professionals involved in patient care.
ECOS
ECOS is a comprehensive educational initiative focusing on continuing medical education (CME) for healthcare professionals involved in the cardiovascular care of patients with cancer.
Cardio-oncology has recently emerged as a thriving subspecialty, as seen in the launch of new cardio-oncology clinical services, cardio-oncology journals and subsections within major medical societies, as well as scientific meetings focused on cardio-oncology research. The next step for cardio-oncology involves educating healthcare professionals who manage the cardiovascular implications of cancer treatment in routine clinical practice.
Following initial planning meetings at the European Institute of Oncology (EIO), Milan, The Christie, Manchester and Barts Heart Centre, London during 2018, ECOS was developed to support healthcare professionals working in the new and fast-moving field of cardio-oncology.
The ECOS 2019 meeting was the first CME event in Europe designed to address the unique educational needs of the cardio-oncology care team and those interested in setting up a cardio-oncology service. ECOS 2019 was endorsed by the European CanCer Organisation and recognised by the European Society of Cardiology, British Cardiovascular Society, European Association of Urology, Spanish Society of Medical Oncology, Polish Cardiac Society and others, reflecting the importance of our education mission.
